Set up and run by James Drayson, The Quiet Press is a design and letterpress studio using traditional equipment and predominantly hand-set type to create beautiful printed matter.
The idea and encouragement to put into practice the skills I developed while studying (Graphic Communication with Typography) at Plymouth University came from Paul ‘inky’ Collier, print technician extraordinaire, friend and mentor. My bedroom at my parents’ house was where The Quiet Press began, but, like any good idea, soon spread into the spare room, kitchen, dining room and garage—much to my mother's dismay!
WHAT IS LETTERPRESS PRINTING?
Letterpress is a print process where a raised image is inked before being pressed into the paper (or other material). The raised image has to be in reverse so that it is the right way round when printed.
